Development of a 6LoWPAN sensor node

It is the goal to develop a versatile, low-cost sensor node platform for experimenting with the Contiki operating system and 6LoWPAN networks similar to the following modules: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_802.15.4_radio_modules

Design choices:

  • Use a ATMEL MCU with at least 16kbyte RAM
  • Use a DIL package for the MCU, so that it can be replaced in case of failure (ATMEGA1284P-PU)

Peripherals

The following list of components could be useful for the operation of the sensor node.

RS232-USB converter

Provides power and lets us debug the output from the operating system and application program. (MAX232 or equivalent).

Step-up voltage regulator

Use a single AA battery to power the board.
